Water and wastewater

Divisions strive to use water more efficiently. WesCEF extends this focus on water management to including consideration of the sustainable supply and quality of the water resources relied on for their operations.

WesCEF

The supply of water and management of wastewater is a business-critical requirement for WesCEF’s Kwinana operations. At CSBP's Kwinana site in Western Australia, the effective management of water availability and reliability, as well as wastewater treatment options, can lower costs and increase environmental compliance, plant reliability and business growth opportunities.

A pilot groundwater remediation system was introduced at CSBP Kwinana last financial year and is proving successful with the removal of approximately 950 kgs of nitrogen from contaminated groundwater this year. Learnings from the pilot will be incorporated into the development of an ongoing remediation program. The extracted groundwater is being treated through the site’s nitrogen removal wetlands.

WesCEF continues to support the Water Corporation’s Kwinana Water Recycling Plant expansion and has confirmed an increase in water allocation, with plans to use the recycled water for current and future operational requirements. This will help reduce CSBP Kwinana’s reliance on existing groundwater sources.
